It was supposed to be the greatest competition event ever in the small town of Tawau.
It was supposed to be the most “happening” event for the youth of Tawau ever.
It was supposed to be one-of-a-kind charitable event as well.
It was supposed to be an easy job being a judge in such an event.
And it turned out that all of the above came true. Except the last supposition.
The Preliminary Rounds and the Finals defeated my suppositions to the deepest of the deepest Earth.
Both Songwriting Category and Band Performance Category were jaw-dropping, eye-popping, and heart-stopping.
I could had and I still could have never ever imagined there was such an astonishing and superextraordinary pool of talented musicians and composers in Tawau. They are all better than soooooooooooooo many music college students in the Klang Valley. It was and it still is unbelievable……
Oh, did I mention that all the contestants are high-schoolers and a few primary-schoolers?
Take for example, the champion of the Band Category can play to the standard of Linkin Park.
Being a judge was definitely no mean feat. This event was many levels higher than the most prestigious singing competition in Tawau. And I dare say, being a judge in Akademi Fantasia and Malaysian Idol are really chicken feet.
So, why do I say “YGT Finals……Finally Over”? It is because I really had trouble sleeping after the Preliminary Round, after the Finals Rehearsal, and after the Finals. Many people are lucky to sleep with the tune of “Sha La La” in their head, and waking up with an upbeat ”Sha La La” in the mornings.
For me, all the bands’ songs were stuck in my head, playing like a tireless CD player looping in my mind. And it’s not just their songs, I literally have all of their performances recorded as visual memory; so therefore allow me to correct myself, it was a HD DVD playing in my memory these few nights.
Thank God for this Hari Raya break. I really need some quality rest.
